The construction of the $1.7 billion casino project of Wynn has been filled with obstructions. Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey has called environmental officials to delay the issuing of permits Wynn needed to begin construction. She said Wynn Resorts should first propose an “extensive plan for long-term solution of traffic issues at Sullivan Square.” |
The cities of Revere, Somerville and Boston also submitted letters asking that Wynn shouldn’t be issued permit because the casino project might only aggravate existing traffic conditions in the area (Read letter here: http://www.cityofboston.gov/images_documents/City%20of%20Boston%20Comment%20Letters%20to%20the%20Wynn%20DEIR%20(1)_tcm3-43753.pdf)
Sullivan Square is a key transit hub to Somerville, Boston and Everett, where the new Wynn casino will be built.
She also sent a memo to transportation officials asking to independently review the traffic plan Wynn Resorts submitted two years ago.
Now, it’s looking like the horizon is beginning to clear up for the Wynn Casino project:
Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack has written a letter to environmental officials giving the green light to Wynn Resorts so it can begin breaking ground.

Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack has written a letter to environmental officials giving the green light to Wynn Resorts so it can begin breaking ground.
The letter of the secretary contains the reasons why it backs up the issuing of the permit to Wynn Resorts.
One: The gambling operator has proposed solutions for short-term problems that may arise because of the project.
Two: The Greater Boston area is notorious for being congested well before the casino construction has been proposed. It has been subjected to comprehensive research in the past decade. Pollack suggested to have long-term traffic issues solved “through a regional working group.”
Previously, Wynn agreed to invest over $10 million to have short-term traffic problems at Sullivan Square fixed. But Boston officials argued it might conflict with their own $100 million plan to fix long-term traffic in the area.
Because Wynn Resorts have sufficiently addressed all traffic issues that may arise from the Everett casino construction, Pollack supports issuing state permit to the gambling operator.
