Casinos have a long and rich history with some amazing stories like the Stardust Casino.
The Stardust casino in Las Vegas has one of the biggest stories to tell. Even though the casino is no longer there, the legend of it carries on.
The casino was built in 1958, but the majority of the modern casino was built in 1991. In 2006 the Stardust Casino was officially closed and in 2007 the casino was demolished. So why was the Stardust Casino so famous and legendary?
During 1961 and onwards, the Stardust was run by some sketchy characters. The credit manager was Hyman Goldbaum who had several known aliases as well as 14 criminal convictions, the casino manager and part owner, Johnny Drew was an associate of mob boss Al Capone and the general manager, Morris Kleinman was an ex-con and served three years for tax evasion.
In 1974, the Argent Corporation bought Stardust. The company was said to have been controlled by mob families in the med-west. Frank Rosenthal was installed to run and oversea the casino and he was an organized crime associate. During this time, an FBI investigation found that $7 and $15 million dollars had been tapped off from the casino through the use of rigged scales.
Stardust fell to the victim of a heist in 1992. A cashier named Bill Brennan simply walked past security filled his backpack with $500 000 and left and was never to be seen again. This is considering one of the biggest Las Vegas casino heists and Bill Brennan is still at large.
The Stardust Casino closed its doors to the public in 2006 and was then demolished in 2007. There was the plan to build a new casino, echelon Place that was supposed to open in 2010. Construction was suspended though because of a downturn in profits by owner Boyd Gaming Corp.
As you can see the Stardust Casino has had its fair share of history and most of it being questionable, however it is just this history that makes the Stardust legendary.
